Weird Things That Keep Us Up At Night

This is likely just the beginning of this list, but there are a lot of weird things we are starting to realize as we are starting to go through things and think about leaving. Many are about what to keep, get rid of, OR to take with us. (Keep in mind that we are ONLY taking our mini-van- or at least that’s the goal.)

Here are few:

  • Braces - How do we do braces when wandering? Luckily, we found out that Chase will be finished in September (hopefully.)
  • Driver’s licence renewal- Shanae’s comes up in February. It’s on the to-do list.
  • Speech therapy for Asher. We are currently looking into online options.
  • What documents do we need to keep with us? What if there’s an emergency?
  • What size will our boys be when we return- what “hand me down’s” do we hold on to- if ANY?
  • What are the best mobile office supplies/options? We both have to work on the road!
  • Why won’t people buy our stuff on ebay? It’s cool!
  • How many pairs of earrings do you need for 8 months? How many is too many? (Shanae only)
  • Do we bring a printer? The one we have now is GINORMOUS! Do they make travel printers?
  • Do we get a PO Box in our hometown? Who checks it?
  • Should we hold on to our truck? Or sell it?
  • Do we need to get someone power of attorney for anything that needs to be handled? Or, since we will be stateside, do we not need to worry about it?
  • Pillows? (Yes, that’s a question)
  • What electronics do we let the kids bring?
  • We won’t have a local library where we check things out… is there a netflix online library for the kids? We will have to learn to actually use the kindles.
  • Do we continue to register our car in our home state?
  • How does health insurance work?
  • Have we cancelled all our subscriptions? (Farewell ipsy)
  • What will we do for workouts on the road? (We plan on doing crossfit if we are in 1 place for a month, but…what about the rest of the time?)
  • Do we need to transfer to a bigger bank rather than our smaller credit union for easy access?
  • Can Chase take Viola lessons online? Do we have room for the viola? (Thank heavens he doesn’t play the cello!)
  • Food is a SUPER weird one… do we carry some food from place to place? It will be impossible to time everything so it runs out before we move on to the next area…
  • Do we bring our Sonicares? Or travel toothbrushes to save room?
  • Can Shanae survive 8 months without a blowdryer? (I rarely use it, but when you need it you need it!)
  • What to do with the money from the house…
And on…. And on… And on...

What else are we missing?! What weird things can you think of that we haven’t yet?

Some thoughts: your local library likely has access to digital resources that will allow you to check out kindle books. You can do this on the road with wifi access. You will probably do a better job selling your stuff on craigslist.

I take my own pillow basically everywhere, so that one is a no-brainer to me. Definite yes.

Credit Unions have service centers. It's also called shared branching. You can go online to a website and look up a credit union that will do transactions for you as if they were your own CU. It will also show you where any ATMs are that have no fees. I rarely go to the actual branch anyway, so I would just use this option rather than switching. It seems that it would be easier.

Good luck answering all these unique questions.

I'll let you know on the pillow LOL That is a tough decision for some reason.

Also, you can check out Varsity tutors for online lessons. I'm sure there are other companies too.

A few suggestions.
-Instead of selling on ebay sell on local facebook groups.
-Set up a PO Box does not matter if it is in your hometown or just within the state and have at least 2 people with keys that you trust. As long as your box is in the same state you can renew your license and vehicle in that state.
-Most library's are connected with the app Overdrive, you sign in with your library card number and can download Ebooks and Audible books. They auto return so no late fees.
-Open a second account with a National bank for back up, but keep your local credit union. You will have to let the Credit Union know your general location so they do not stop transactions for suspected fraud. (Nothing sucks worse then being far away from home and having your card decline at Walmart because your bank assumes your card was hacked.)

Good luck you guys, it sounds like an amazing adventure.
