You may all go to Hell, and I will go to Texas.
-Davy Crockett
Here's a little about what we've learned from our two weeks in Texas:
  • Frontage roads here are strange at first, but really great once you get used to them. (Especially for people who are frequently lost.)
    • They are connected to all on and off ramps to the freeway - different from what we're used to, but loving them now.
  • HEB
    • Super awesome Texas grocery store that we wish was everywhere.
  • Courteous drivers
    • Kudos to you Texas, you have some nice drivers here - very kind and courteous.
  • People hate the drive to Dallas
    • Not sure why, but everyone we talked to about driving to Dallas all told us how horrible that drive was and told us they were sorry they were that had to make it. It wasn't bad for us - probably because of the time of day we drove?
  • "Y'all" is contagious
    • We want to say y'all, but feel like impostors if we do.
  • Fire Ants
    • These ants are like nothing we've seen anywhere else. Tiny, swarm like bees, and more painful and longer lasting than a bee sting - not fun. And they're everywhere.
  • Whataburger dilemma
    • There is a polarized opinion about this fast food restaurant here. The Texas based burger shop is either loved or classified like any other McDonald's style place. We liked it. I'd say quite a bit better than McDonald's.
  • We hate having all tile floors
    • Our condo has all tile floors and it sucks. No rugs and carpet of any kind anywhere. Cold, echoy, loud and annoying.
  • Bucc-ee's
    • Massive Texas gas station is a bit life changing. Hard to explain without experiencing it. If you're in Texas, find a Buc-ee's.
  • The Texas flag is everywhere
    • Texas knows and shows their flag. I don't remember the last time I saw a Nevada flag.
  • Having a hot tub and pool in our backyard is awesome.
    • We use it almost everyday.

Torchy's Tacos

Great taco shop - Tag line "Damn Good Tacos" - If things ever seem to be going to smoothly, Asher says "Oh my Damn" to strike up a little frustration in us. Then says that we shouldn't have taken him to that restaurant if we didn't want him to say "Oh my Damn".
That's a bit of what we've learned from our first two week here in Texas. We did a video to explain a bit more below.

We are continuing to try and figure this new life of ours out. I'm amazed to find that we are still finding things we question ourselves for bringing. So, without question we will get rid of even more stuff at the end of our stay here.

We are still working on clothing and how having limited clothes works - and trying to use the clothing capsule idea. Also, working on food and grocery shopping. How to we multi purpose more food so we don't have to buy a bunch a small item every time we move places (and also avoid having to carry all those little food items from one place to the next).

We try new things in home schooling and work every week. Always trying and hoping that the next thing will be better and more efficient than the thing before.

We're a work in progress.

I love Whataburger. Its actually an AZ based thing. I miss it and try to get it whenever I visit fam in AZ.

I was wondering about the food thing. Like you buy all this bread , milk, sandwich stuff...etc. But when its time to move do you take it, buy new?

Following ya and loving it !

Our hope is that we have planned well enough that we don't have anything left over... or, at least that we have very little. It takes a lot more planning than I thought it would LOL

DO NOT leave TX without trying TX brisket... I suggest Cooper's BBQ. Also, breakfast tacos are required as well... Bill Miller's potato, egg and bacon tacos get a gian thumbs up.... Taco Cabana is the ultimate fast food version of the breakfast taco.... egg and bacon, egg and chorizo... doesn't matter... ALL delicious!
